NonStop (Tandem) Daylight Savings Service

dstclock.jpg

DST 2007 changes are here.   Are you ready?

The United States has planned a change to its DST observance beginning in 2007. The Energy Policy Act of 2005 mandates that DST will start on the second Sunday in March and end on the first Sunday in November. In 2007, the start and stop dates will be March 11 and November 4, respectively. These dates are different from previous DST start and stop dates. In 2006, the dates were the first Sunday in April (April 2, 2006) and the last Sunday in October (October 29, 2006). Some countries are still evaluating whether they will adopt the new rules for themselves. You should anticipate more changes in DST and time zone rules for countries that typically align with U.S. DST rules.

FACT: NonStop servers running Dxx  must be configured manually for Daylight Savings Time.  There is no upgrade patch from HP.

FACT: NonStop servers running G06.27 or earlier for S-Series or H06.05 or earlier for NS-Series that do not plan to install the SPR, must be configured manually.

The blue areas above are the countries which have daylight savings...but interestingly in their own way and in different periods.  Many NonStop customers in the United States use the system configuration attribute for daylight savings of USA66 in the ALLPROCESSORS.  It is these systems that must have the appropriate changes applied for compliance before March 11, 2007.   Are your systems configured correctly?  How much will it cost if they are not?

Don’t take a risk, timestamps are critical to almost every application and be must be accurate to avoid inaccuracies that could have disastrous results (including fees, fines, errors and failures).  Send an email to info@srandall.com or call for a quote and have your NonStop servers DST-2K7 ready now.   We will be sure and include the any or all of the following…

Review

We will review your current O/S version, CIIN and CONFIG to determine your current settings and risk for a DST failure in 2007.  We will also look into the C RTE version and any Java usage, as they have application specific patches.

Manual Configuration

If necessary, we will implement the necessary changes to the current SYS<nn> configuration for manually DST transition table entries.  (Dxx servers or other non-SPR sites).

Install SPR

In some cases, installing the required SPR is the right decision.

Document

Detailed documentation will be provided to explain any changes made, and what is required going forward.

Local or Remote

Our DST service can be performed locally (at your site), or remotely via secured access (VPN, etc.).  If a coldload is needed, then remote will have special privileges or considerations.

Tested

We done the research, read the SPRs, Hotstuff, Support Notes and documentation.  If an adequate test system exists, we will temporarily set the clock to March 11, 2007 so you can see the time change first hand.
